Valparaiso Coffee Table

Valparaiso Coffee Table

Wooden blocks that are part of a pallet, often come in colors as well as print. The inspiration for this work came from the harbor city Valparaiso in Chile, which used to be the most important seaport in South America for those who wished to reach the Pacific Ocean from Europe all the way up to North America – a journey that could last 6 months. Its importance dwindled when the Panama Canal was built, significantly shortening the journey. Nevertheless it is still a vibrant port and important city in Chile. Much of it is comprised from tin-made houses that are painted in an array of colors, starting from the hill tops down to the shore.
